you know... tucked somewhere neatly under
the car itself.

my sister has been here all weekend...
and i want her to leave. but while fixing
dinner, i asked her to go fetch me some
milk at the store.

on her way back, she got out of the car
and left her bag (she calls it a 'purse')...
inadvertantly locking her keys in the car.

for the past hour or so, she's been using
all sorts of shit trying to reach in there
and hit the UNLOCK button.

she has exploited cat toys, a broken golf
club, blah blah blah... just to try and
get the fucker to unlock. everything has
either been too thick, too pliable, or just
too ganked. (seeing how i dislike wire
coat hangers, she borrowed one from some
kid on the street)

nothing has worked and she is still here...
why don't fucking car manufacturers think
of this?? i've seen the devices those towing
companies use to unlock your car... something
like that could easily be made to lock up
out of place under the car somewhere....
if they can put spare tires under a vehicle,
they can think of this.


i suppose the reason this isn't done, is to
thwart car theft. however i think with todays
technology... you could create a theft deterant
system that would prevent the use of the item.
some coded entry system or thumbprint or SOMEthing
to stop this from happening.

first of all, i'm not talking about high end cars
with fancy bs features... i'm talking about an
attachment that could be placed on any car as an
added safety feature (via autozone, etc).

similar to the hide-a-key, it would just be something
anyone can purchase/add.

as for how to get it out of whatever compartment,
i don't fucking know. as i said above (clearly)...
maybe a code (keypad) or something......

how did my sister get it open?

she spent the bulk of her time using the items
on the drivers side of the car. i suggested
trying the alternate side.... she CLAIMED to have
done this... but later, when i tried it, it
was obvious that she didn't do shit because the
play on the passenger side window was much more
great.

the tool?

a 4 foot bamboo pole and the hook off of a wire
coathanger... fashioned like a paperclip and
attached with tape to the end of the bamboo.

since her car is power locks... you just had
to shove that sonnuvabitch in there and hit the
button... but because the U (unlock) button was
on the inside of the panel... we had to use the
hanger-like thing to give the extra 2 or so inches
to reach the odd angle.

needless to say, as i have said MANY times...
if people would just fucking LISTEN to me...
perhaps they would find resolution to their
situation much sooner....

i only mentioned the high end cars because that technology will trickle down into all cars soon and we will be a keyless society (at least when it comes to automobiles).

The new breed of cars coming out wont have keys.

I believe the new corvette's are even like this...but you just have the little key fob thing that sends a signal to the car telling it who you are and it unlocks once you get within a few feet.

One of the high end car companies like Mercedes or BMW has had this as as option for a few years now but Im not sure how well it works.

Ill check on the Corvette thing, because I just skimmed the article on it, but Im pretty sure that's how it works. What Im not sure of, however is if you leave your key fob in the car while you go shopping. The car would be unlocked and anyone could just drive off in it. I dunno. Im gonna check this out and report back with my findings!

How did your sister finally get into her car? You speak of the hidden jimmy bar type thing underneath the car but if you were to lock it up, where would that key be?

They have those magnetic key storage container holder thingies that I think work pretty good. Just place a spare key in it and pop it underneath your car.

Anyone ever used one?

Heres another worthless Trampis and the ex-wife story.

WE decided one fair afternoon to go hit some golf balls at the local driving range.Cool.

So we load ourselves and the clubs into the old buick I used to own.Head down to the local driving range.

I pull up and we will be hitting balls on the grass about 50 feet in front of the car.I get out and she gets out(I drove and thus am master of the keys)and she locks the doors from the passenger side with the power doorlocks!Big no no.I left the keys in the ignition seeing how we were going to be within eyeshot of the car...The passenger never locks the doors!

Get a spare key, some superglue, and a magnet/velcro. Glue the key to the magnet/velcro, and place it in a hidden, yet easily accesable location where you can get it if you accidentally lock your keys in the car.
Car manufacturers don't do this for one simple reason, the cars are made on an assemblyline, which means that every car would have this 'get-me-out-of-this-situation' thing in the exact same place, and anyone that knows this secret place on the car could get into any car of this type that they wanted, anytime they wanted.
